275 KILBURN HIGH ROAD
This derelict timber yard in Kilburn was identified as a potential development site by the practice and the long time owners were located. ROHA approached the Peabody Trust who then acquired the site. The practice also identified a local GP practice in need of new premises to fulfil the street frontage use requirement for the site.
The interlocking forms of this flagship Peabody Trust project comprise private flats rough sleeper housing a medical centre and a theatre workshop for the adjacent Tricycle Theatre.
The scheme was subsequently incorporated into the Peabody Design Guide.
‘The scheme demonstrates that with care and imagination, it is possible to design within a prescriptive brief, to a strict budget and still produce quality modern architecture..
Although low cost housing and commercial apartments are never likely to be at the cutting edge of the avante garde, 275 Kilburn High Rd demonstrates just how much can be achieved by a talented design team and an enlightened client.’
