KINGSGATE PLACE KILBURN
Planning permission was granted to demolish the entire site and to build a new block of flats, including affordable housing, above new shops in Kilburn High Road. The developer then agreed to refurbish the existing building, and early department store from the Edwardian era, creating flats in the buildings on the existing High Street frontage, with new flats to the rear in Kingsgate Place. A podium courtyard between the two blocks formed a quiet secluded garden space in the middle of the bustling Kilburn High Road area.
The whole development resulted in 20 affordable flats for Origin Housing and 32 flats for market sale, all built over 4800sqm of retail space that included the first car free Aldi supermarket in Britain.
