PECKHAM HIGH STREET

PECKHAM HIGH STREET

The existing Post Office site in Peckham High Street was developed in the early 1960’s as a two storey post office building with administrative offices above, typical of these buildings at the time. The proposals to replace the two storey buildings with a five storey hotel were submitted for planning permission to Southwark Council in 2016. Due to the location in a Conservation Area the proposals were submitted to public scrutiny and consultation, involving public meetings, an on site exhibition and open days. The proposals were favourably received, especially the retention of the post office, and were approved in 2017.

In order to keep the Post Offuce open throughput the development, the demolition had to take place in two phases to enable the new Post Office to be built before demolishing th old. The second half of the ground floor was then demolished and re-built, and the building then taken up from first floor onwards as a whole.

Progress was affected by Covid 19 but completion is now due in the Spring of 2022.

The building houses a 52 bedroom hotel, a Post Office and a separate retail unit.
